UAE Launches Make it in the Emirates Startup Competition for Sustainability-Focused Tech Start-Ups

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is continuing its push towards sustainable economic development and industrial decarbonization with the launch of the Make it in the Emirates Startup Competition. The competition, which is set to take place on 31 May to 1 June, will feature 24 start-ups with disruptive technologies focused on sustainability and decarbonization.

The Ministry of the Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) created the competition as part of its efforts to drive sustainable economic development in the run-up to COP28. The event provides a platform for participating start-ups to pitch their technologies and connect with investors and experts. The Make it in the Emirates Startup Competition aims to enable forward-looking technology start-ups with pioneering sustainability-related innovations that can transform existing industries while also seeding the green industries of the future.

The competition will feature startups from various sectors with a focus on sustainability, decarbonization, and digitalization. The event will take place at the Make it in the Emirates Forum, where participating startups can meet with policy makers and industry partners to network and further develop and deploy their technologies.

The competition will provide startups with unique investment and collaboration opportunities, as well as access to a suite of incentives offered by the UAE’s Advanced Technology ecosystem. Applications for the competition close on May 5, 2023, and the 24 startups will be selected based on the innovation they have demonstrated, their disruptive potential, their scalability and sustainability, as well as their marketing potential, competitive advantage, and positive social impact.

The judging panel for the competition will include representatives from Aspire, EDGE Group, Muhamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Technology Innovation Institute, Dubai Industrial City, UAE University, and Strata. The Make it in the Emirates Startup competition is one of several initiatives launched under the Make it in the Emirates umbrella, which aims to attract investors, industrialists, and innovators to the UAE to benefit from the country’s competitive advantages.
